Run what you brung took on a whole new meaning when a 767 ran out of gas after a bad metric conversion and safely landed on a dragstrip near Gimli, Manitoba. The plane was flown out and served with Air Canada until its reitre ment in 2008.

There was an episode of air disasters that covered that it was interesting. There were 2 kids riding their bikes on the runway back to the direction the plane was landing. Scary stuff.

Yeah I guess it was a bit hairy on the ground in the final seconds when they figured out what was happening, but just an amazing outcome considering how many opportunities this had to go south in a hurry.

No wonder they blew the conversion with PSAs like this
